Salmon

Salmon have an incredible life. After growing up in the river, the small salmon embark on a long nutritional migration to the big ocean. It travels many thousands of kilometers. Amazingly, they always find their way back to the river they were born in. In Norway, where we have so many salmon rivers, we have a special responsibility to take care of the wild Atlantic salmon.

Sea trout

Trout come in many varieties, but all start life in freshwater. While some go to the sea to eat their fill, others live their entire lives in streams, rivers or lakes. Those that go on a feeding migration to the sea are called sea trout.

Arctic char

The sea urchin is able to live in cold water. In fact, there are no other freshwater fish that live further north! In arctic regions, such as North Greenland and Svalbard, there are only Arctic char. The char that also live in the sea are called charr. We find them all around the Arctic Ocean in the northern hemisphere.

Byglandsbleka

Bleka is a very special Atlantic salmon. It and the Namsblanken are Norway's only surviving relict salmon stocks. Bleka was almost extinct in the late 1960s, but much has been done to save it.

Namsblanken

The Namsblanken is a very special Atlantic salmon. It never goes to the sea, but lives its entire life in flowing river water.
