The National Wild Salmon Center in Lærdal , in collaboration with Øyraplassen 14 AS, invites you to a Spawning Festival to create awareness of the salmon.
Spawning is the start of new salmon life, is fascinating to watch and takes place in October/November. In Lærdalselvi, it's easy to see what's happening at the spawning grounds if you take a walk along the river.
The aim of the spawning festival is to create experiences and activities that delight young and old alike, so that we experience and learn more about salmon in nature and have fun together. Most of the activities are free, but some you have to pay for. The program includes everything from a spawning quiz to a concert with Stein Torleif Bjella himself! Tickets can be found below the program.
Spawning walks will take place in Sokni, a good spawning ground just off Kongevegen past Galdane. Other activities will take place at Lærdal kulturhus.
Time: Friday, October 25 - Sunday, October 27

In a letter from the organizer, the artist presents himself as follows:
"Stein Torleif Bjella is one of the country's greatest singer-songwriters, with a number of releases behind him, which together have garnered fantastic reviews and earned him loyal fans all over the country.
In the fall of 2023, Bjella released the brand new album Nysetmåne to rave reviews. The album was followed by a long tour to full houses around the country, culminating in a sold-out concert at Sentrum Scene in Oslo in December.
In parallel with this, the Ål poet juggled the musical work for the theater performance Heil Ved, based on Lars Mytting's kiosk swallows of a book. The production, in which Stein Torleif Bjella also contributes on stage, has been played to full houses at the Norwegian Theatre since its premiere last fall.
Bjella made a name for himself with his solo debut "Heidersmenn" in 2009, and two years later the follow-up "Vonde visu" won the Spellemann Prize. "Heim for å døy" (Home to die) completed the trilogy in 2013, taking first place on the VG list.
Since then, the artist from Ål in Hallingdal has released the critically acclaimed studio albums "Gode Liv" and "Øvre-Ål Toneakademi", as well as creating an experimental spoken word improv album with his band. Released "Bjellasangar arranged for brass & wood", a collaboration between Bjella and Kringkastingsorkesteret, and won the Edvard Prize, Prøysen Prize, Skjæraasen Prize and Bendiksen Prize.
"Eg ska kysse so Jesus gret" and "Psykisk kan du vera sjøl", Bjella sings. In his music, the extremes meet: One eye laughs, one cries. Mournful joy and romantic heartbreak. The characters, descriptions and stories we meet in the text universe were also the inspiration for the play "Kan nokon gripe ind", seen by over thirty thousand people when it was staged at the Norwegian Theatre in 2017.
Stein Torleif Bjella is also a respected author, and is behind the poetry collection "Jordsjukantologien Nr. 1" and the novel "Fiskehuset", both of which have received rave reviews and been published in several editions. "Fiskehuset" was nominated for the P2 listeners' novel prize and received the Nynorsk Literature Prize. The novel has so far been translated into Danish, German, Dutch, Czech and Faroese."
